On Treating Your Horse With Care

Only a horse rider can truly appreciate that special bonding with the horse and the empathy that you feel towards the horse. Fortunately, today you can order a whole range of products that have been manufactured with the sole objective of not only the riders comforts but also the comfort of the horse. The range of products includes saddles and saddlepads, half numnahs and corrective pads besides accessories for the horse. These horse accessories include girth sleeves, French blinkers, stirrup slipper, wool earplugs and wool leg wraps besides breastplate sets and head collar sets. Other horse accessories cover breast check sleeves, grooming mitt, wither pad, the noseband cover and fleece saddle cover besides formulations for washing of bedding and the clothing used by the horse.

While the girth sleeves are made of very fine British wool thats recognized for durability and comfort besides the inherent elasticity the sleeve also protects the horse against girth rub. This is especially significant in respect of horses with very sensitive backs. These sleeves come in acrylic artificial fur fabric as well and you can order them in the animal colors such as those of the tiger and the zebra among others. Velcro fasteners are used with these sleeves that are available in various sizes from 20 to 50. The head collar set provides additional comfort while the horse is traveling and comes in sets of four pieces. The breast check sleeves are in wool and Velcro while the grooming mitt adds that extra shine to the horses coat. Horse accessories such as the wither pad provide protection against withers and the noseband cover helps the horse to focus while adding to its looks as well. The fleece saddle cover maintains the looks of the saddle while the formulations used for washing the horses bedding and other clothing are specially made after rigorous dermatological testing.

Corrective pads are used only as a temporary measure when you need to use the same saddle on another horse. Since no two horses have the same shape, these corrective pads in high wither style ensure that there is no unnecessary pressure especially over wither.

Horse Grooming Kits And How They Can Help Keep Your Pets Looking Beautiful

At some stage of our lives we have all wanted a horse. Some are lucky enough to actually achieve this dream. Part of the fun of owning such a magnificent stallion, stunning mare or cute little pony is grooming them in order to make them look beautiful whether for pleasure or show purposes. To look beautiful, a horse must be brushed, combed, washed, hooves picked and coat polished, which takes up to an hour each day. Just like humans, horses require a number of different items in their grooming kit. What essential equipment must a kit possess and how do they keep the horse looking healthy and attractive?

It is vital that the kit must be kept together to ensure that nothing is lost; it can be stored easy and at the ready. Some choose to store it in specially designed tough plastic pouches or shoulder bags while others may decide plastic tubs; tackle boxes or buckets are a better option.

A happy horse is one that likes to move around, go for rides and sometimes roll around on the ground. These actions will no doubt pick up dirt and pieces of natural material such as leaves, twigs and small rocks. A harsh rubber or plastic currycomb is used to slacken these in ground particles and hair. The action of the currycomb also aids the natural oil production of the skin.

A dandy brush will remove debris left by the currycomb as well as any sweat marks, but it should only be used on the tougher parts of the horse due to its rigid elongated bristles. Moistening the dandy acts as a water brush, which can be used to wet through the tail and mane. The areas that cannot be brushed using this implement can be done so using a less harsh body brush, which eliminates less course particles while shining the coat. A plastic, or metal, currycomb is used to remove the debris gathered in the dandy brush.

The mane and tail must also be maintained through the use of a mane brush to keep up its appearance. This will detangle and unknot the hair for a slick, smooth and straighter look while eliminating debris. Mane combs are not to be used to perform this function but can be used to section them for plaiting or thinning them out.

Other useful products to have in your kit include: hoof pick to clean the hoof, sponges to clean the face, shedding blade for tougher mud and assisting winter coat shedding, sweat scraper to mop water and sweat during the washing stage and a stable rubber for shining up at the end. Of course there are numerous other non-essential but helpful tools that one can use to keep their pet looking beautiful: horse hoof paintbrush, hoof polish, clippers and hair shampoos and conditioners.

Grooming your horse can bring hours of enjoyment for both you and your horse. Having the right tools in your kit can make keeping your pets looking beautiful a lot more convenient. The only stressful factor when performing this task is what design and colour you want the kit to come in.

7 Businesses That Need Flyers

The use of printed flyers as promotional material has become common practice in recent years. It is an effective way to let your customers know about upcoming sales and events. The cost of flyer printing can be quite affordable too if you use an online printing company.

Some of the businesses that might look to using flyers in their promotional campaigns are listed below but no matter what your trade or industry, there is sure to be a time when a printed flyer can be used not only as a form of advertising but a source of information as well.

New Businesses
All new businesses will benefit from letting the local neighbourhood know they are now in operation. A simple one sided flyer can be printed with details of the opening day and what is available for sale or particular services to be provided. It is a way of getting your information out to a large group of people for little money.

Hospitality Industry
From restaurants to take away food shops, the flyer is ideal for listing the menu or advertising special deals. They can even be used for vouchers and two for one meal deals.

Home Services
Any business that provides home services can advertise with flyers. They are ideal for pet grooming, the general handyman or gardener. Locals may not be aware of your services if you do not have a shopfront, so having a letterbox drop in the neighbourhood it is a good way to let people know what you have to offer.

Financial Services
Accountants, tax agents and bookkeepers can use flyers to remind their clients of due dates for reporting periods to the tax department. They could also give advice to changes in the legislation or other relevant information. Flyers are an affordable option. For specific booklets printing requirements sourcing a printing service on line can save more money and time.

Community Groups
Neighbourhood centres and charitable organisations can inform the local public about coming events and fundraisers. Most people will keep a flyer in the kitchen drawer or by the phone to remind them of the dates when functions are held.

Tradespeople
Most tradespeople work from a home office so they are not in the public eye in the same way as businesses that operate from a store or shopfront. Advertising regularly in newspapers can be rather expensive. A flyer is not only a cheaper alternative but people are more likely to hold on to it than an ad from the paper.

Hairdressers and Beauty Treatments
Newcomers to the area will be wanting to know who the local hairdresser is and what other beauty treatments are available. Health centres and retreats can use flyers as promotional material and announce special packages being offered.

This list is by no means exhaustive and all companies no matter how big or small will do well to consider having flyers printed for those special messages needed to inform the public, advertise their business and sales’ news.

Natural Horse Training: How To Prevent Biting

It is normal for horses to bite each other. They do it while at play, while grooming each other, or when they are fighting. The thing your horse needs to know is that it is not okay to bite people! Horses are herd animals. What you need to do is establish that you are the lead mare, who sets the rules in the herd. The basic natural horse training tip here is that you set the rules when it comes to biting, and the rule is simple: NO BITING!

1. If you are raising a foal, its best to establish no nibbling or nuzzling from the start. Nuzzling and nibbling lead to biting, and although its adorable in a foal who is toothless, it could turn into a bad habit. Discourage them by giving your foal a nudge. You dont have to be rough, but be consistent.

2. Try not to feed horses treats from your hand. This may be contrary to what you are used to, but again, feeding from the hand leads to nuzzling, which leads to nipping, which leads to you-know-what.

3. If you are around a horse that is a known biter, the best natural horse training tip to employ is to be alert.

4. If the horse lunges at you with intention to bite, hit him immediately, and hit him hard. Dont use your hand; this will hurt you more than it hurts him. Use a rope, or other object that preferably delivers a smacking sound as well.

5. Hit the horse within a few seconds of the attempt, any longer than that and he will be confused as to what you are punishing him for.

6. Do not hit the eye or ear area, but anywhere else is ok. Be serious when you do it. Otherwise he may think you are just playing a game, and you could end up validating the bad habit.

How To Heat Your Barn

A common problem with heating most barns or other animal confinement buildings is that many are poorly insulated and most forced air heating systems are just plain inefficient. The solution gas infrared heaters.

What is infrared?

Infrared is just another term for radiant. Think of a stove, fireplace, oven or even our own sun. These sources all emit infrared (radiant) heat energy at the speed of light in a straight line. Upon striking objects (floors, people, machinery, animals, etc.) that energy converts to heat to warm the surrounding air. Think of the sun. The sun does not heat the air, the sun heats the earth and the earth heats the air.

In a barn or other large open interior space, infrared heaters are specially made to produce safe, comfortable radiant heat. Generally, infrared heaters are directed downward from the ceiling toward a target area below. For instance, in a horse barn infrared heaters can be directed toward a wash and grooming area or down a common walkway, between horse stalls or even in riding arenas.

What kind of infrared heaters are best suited for the barn environment?

Gas infrared tube heaters are usually the best for heating equine facilities. Why? A few good reasons:

1) Infrared tube heaters emit soft, comfortable radiant heat energy without moving any air with no drafts. No blowing air can help prevent respiratory illnesses and enhance the overall health of horses and other animals.
2) General creature comfort is improved. Infrared heats the ground. Warm floors means warm bodies and feet.
3) Infrared, like light, can be directed at a target. For barns, this can mean the horse wash area, dry off areas, stalls, aisle ways, or wherever the need for heat is greatest.
4) Energy savings and efficiency. Infrared heaters can be strategically mounted to throw radiant energy where it is needed, rather than to empty spaces. This tactical approach to heating space can save a boatload of money in operational expenses versus forced-air heating methods.
5) Infrared tube heaters are completely self contained. By drawing outside air into the burner at one end and venting products of combustion out the opposite end to the outside, the flame inside the heater is completely isolated from dusty and contaminated indoor air. This prolongs life of the heater.
6) Animals like the feel of radiant warmth from the sun. An infrared heating system provides the same kind of comfort. Animals are generally happier and healthier.

What exactly is a tube heater?

A tube heater consists of a burner box, which includes control components much a gas valve, circuit board, safety switch, etc.) Extending horizontally from the burner is a long 4 diameter 16 guage steel tube, anywhere from 10 to 70 feet in length. Positioned above is an aluminum parabolic reflector running over the length of the tube. When the burner comes on, a long flame shoots down the tube until it gets hot. The reflector ensures that heat energy that bounces out from the top portions of the tubing gets reflected downward to the floor area. The goal is to get all of that energy focussed downward.

A simple web search of infrared tube heaters will give you a good overview of the different tube heater brands and what they offer. Hint: not all brands are the same. For instance, one manufacturer has a 99.9% efficient reflector configuration the best in the industry. Others range anywhere from 65% efficient (effective) to 95%. A superior reflector design can mean better heating efficiency and lower operating costs.

If youre searching for a tube heating system, do a thorough online search first. Look for the best warranty, best construction quality, best reflective efficiency, and best serviceability among all brands. Then, buy only from a company with a solid reputation in the infrared industry, a company capable of giving you the type of support that will merit your business. You should get a good price, of course, but make sure that whoever you buy from will be on hand to fulfill, guarantee and offer support to you down the road.
